Like when to plant the seeds, where to plant them and also if the plants will grow healthy in your climate. Plan the whole process beforehand and you will see that it’s easy to grow vegetables. Make sure that you prepare the costs that will be required when you start the whole process. And also you have to bear in mind that this is a process that is quite time consuming. You will also have to be prepared for the time that it will take to actually grow vegetables out of your plants. You can’t get vegetables as soon as you plants them. You have to prepare the soil first and then wait for a while to let the vegetables grow. They might take a while depending on types but they are surely worth the wait. There are a lot things that you will have to keep in mind like when to plant vegetables, how to plant them, where to plant them. Decide all these things at first.
Now, first things first, decide which vegetable you want to plant. This is the most crucial decision that you will have to make regarding this topic. Do some research and learn which type of vegetable is most suited for your area and climate. All type of plants don’t grow the same way in every climate. Decide which type of plant will suit you the most. It might be a bit hard to choose the right type of vegetable but make sure that you don’t mess up in this part. This is probably the most important part in the whole process. Don’t aim for glory from the first, you should start out small at first, plant a few vegetables at first, and see if you can grow them in a healthy way. If you see that you are confident in planting vegetables and you see yourself giving time to this thing, you move on to the next stage. Don’t aim for a large process at the first, just plant a few and focus on them. This actually requires some more time than what people expect. So, if you see that it’s a long and hard process, don’t be too pressurized, instead try to enjoy the hard work that you are putting in. Once you start to see that the results of your hard work are starting to show, then you do what you did with a few plants, in a large scale. Try to gather the experience at first. Because if you plant a whole lot of vegetables at first and you see that the vegetables are not adjusting to your climate, then it might be very depressing for you and that might make you to give up. So instead just try out the plants in a very short scale and then move on to a large scale. Next, you have to decide on where to plant your vegetables. Vegetable plants require special attention as they require a lot of nutrition when compared to other plants, this is because they take in the nutrition to form the vegetables themselves. So make sure that you plant the vegetables in a place where there is abundant sunlight and there is much exposure to water. There are some vegetables which require shade, so if you want to plant them, then you will have to find a place in your backyard where there is shade. So this is why I told you to choose the type of vegetable that you want to plant at first. When to plant vegetables? You can also do pot planting. You can simply grow your vegetables in a pot and there are some advantages to it. If you see that the plants are growing as healthily as you expected then you can simply move them to a new location. They don’t require much space and also they are less prone to weeds than the plants that grow on the ground. But when there are so many advantages, there are some disadvantages too. Like they are much more high maintenance than the plants that are on the ground. They will need to water more often, as they can’t reach out and take water from the underground by their roots. The only water that will be supplied to them will be by you. And also the grounds don’t change their temperatures too drastically. Whereas pots can. Pots change their temperature very fast, as they are smaller in size. So therefore if your vegetable only survives in a specific temperature, then it will be a problem for you in the future.
Now, you have to decide whether you want to start fresh, from a seed. Or do you want to buy a plant that has already grown quite a bit. There are more advantages to buying a grown plant than a seed. These plants are grown by professionals in greenhouses. So you can expect that won’t die or wither away easily. They can also be planted any time in the season you want. Because they are already grown. And they will start to supply you with vegetables, rather than waiting for them to sprout for years, you can buy a plant that is already a couple of years old. But there are downsides to this as well. Seeds cost significantly less the plants. But seeds will have to be taken care of a lot when you first put them in the soil. If they catch frost, the enzymes inside will stop working and as a result their growth will halt. Next, deciding when to plant vegetables.
You will also have to realize that some plants are quite hard to grow from seeds. Some take long time to germinate and they are not things that a normal household gardener would like. Cultivating for such long periods are not the perfect starts to your vegetable gardening experience. You can consider buying an already germinated plant for these sort of vegetables. But on the other hand, some plants are easier to grow from their seeds. Shocking right? Yet true. Once you decide which vegetable you want to plant, things will get easier for you to decide. You also have to decide whether you want to plant your vegetable in the summer or in the winter. You also have taken in account that different vegetable grow better in different parts of the year. So research when to plant vegetables. Your locations and the type of soil that you will plant the vegetable on is also important. Now that you have decided on how to approach things, you should start buying the seeds for your plants. Research a little bit about the different types of stores which sell seeds. Buy the best quality seeds if possible. If you are buying a grown plant instead of seeds then check the plants thoroughly to see that does not have any spots or dead cells in its leaves or any problem of any sort. Some of the seeds are genetically evolved and they have it written on their packaging. If you problems with your food being altered from the way that Mother Nature planned it to be, then you can look for seeds which were not genetically modified. This is your decision to make, so choose wisely. You can also buy seeds online. Research and find a reputed website where they sell quality seeds. Buying seeds online is a good as there is a mountain of choices to choose the seeds from. And also if you have any questions, you can call their customer care number. They are quite experienced so they will be very helpful to you. As I mentioned before, the type of soil in your lawn is also important. If you have uneven ground level, and if your soil has suffered from erosion, it’s logical to remove the top soil completely and make changes to it. Make changes according to needs of the vegetable that you are about to plant. Add things like compost that will increase the nutrient content in your soil that will help your plant to grow healthier. Then check for the PH of the soil. Different plants require different levels of acidity in their soil. Check what pH is best for your plant and then make changes to the soil accordingly. Research on what type of soil is best for your vegetable of choice and then make amendments to soil. It’s a good idea to remove all the weeds and unwanted things from the area that you are going to plant the seeds on. Weeds will feed on the food that were meant to be for the vegetables. Make sure that you clear the area thoroughly. Because some of the weeds can regenerate if only some of their parts are left. According to your vegetables’ needs, you will have to break the soil down and then make amendments to it. You have to make sure that there is some space in the soil left for the roots of the plants to grow. This is because some of the roots will actually grow up to be quite large and they will take a lot space. They will go deep underground in search of water and minerals. Also make sure that you provide more area to the plant than it size. Because the root that are underground will take a lot of space and if you don’t have enough space the roots will get damaged later.
Now for deciding when to plant vegetables. Find a place that you want to plant the seeds in. Or if you bought a grown plant, it will take up a bigger space. Then after you chose the area on which you want the plant the vegetable on, dig a hole and put your plant or seeds in it. Some type of vegetables require different type of approach so be sure that you read the instructions in the packaging of the seeds completely before you make any move. See if there is any instruction on the depth at which the seeds should be planted. Already grown plants should be level with the ground surface. Also remember that some vegetables like garlic have be placed in exact directions for them to grow correctly. The flat root should be placed so that the root can easily grow underground and the other on the upper side so that the shoot can grow out of it. Then after you have placed the seeds or the plant, cover the soil with soil. If you have placed the plant, make sure that the soil around it is firm and tight as it will help the plant to stay upright. Then make sure that the soil is level. If not, it will cause water puddles to be formed which will supply too much water to the plant, and that is not healthy for the plant. Next, water your plants. Make sure that the ground around plant is wet and moist. But don’t overdo it. Don’t cause a flood!
After you have planted the vegetables, take care of them regularly. If any kind of weeds grow from the soil, make sure that you remove them as fast as possible, as weeds are very dangerous to the plants. They take in most of the nutrition from the ground that the plants will require to grow healthy. Consider mulching the ground around your vegetables that will help you a bit to make the weeds stay away from your vegetables. It up to you to decide when to plant vegetables.
